Enjoy the shortest day of the year with a meditative hike. We will take a short, silent walk on the accessible trail along the Upper Highland Lake in DAR State Forest and enjoy the sunset together in peaceful quiet. Depending on the group, we may extend the hike a bit longer. In addition to the early sunset, we can attempt to spot the “double planet” of Jupiter and Saturn, separated in the sky by less than a tenth of a degree – the first time the planets’ orbits have been brought this close in nearly 800 years! Please remember to bring appropriate clothing (warm, non-cotton layers), a flashlight or a headlamp, and water. Traction devices for your shoes may also be useful! It is an easy, flat hike, and the total mileage out and back is 1.6 miles.
Advanced registration is required for this event, as is strict adherence to Hilltown Land Trust’s COVID-19 guidelines. Attendance will be capped at 10. If interest exceeds demand, we may schedule additional hikes, so please add your name to the waiting list. As COVID-19 cases continue to rise nationwide, we can safely hold events only with your continued cooperation. By following common-sense safety measures, we can work collectively to ensure the well-being of the Hilltowns while sharing in the fellowship of our HLT community. Please see the guidelines below for more information.
