Date/Time
Date(s) - Dec 23rd, 2018
6:30 am - 8:30 am
Location
Bullitt Reservation
Please note: Due to a rainy forecast, we are postponing our Solstice hike, originally scheduled for Friday, December 21st, to SUNDAY, DECEMBER 23rd. It looks to be a beautiful day!
We will quietly greet the sun on the shortest day of the year on a hillside at Bullitt Reservation. Once the sun is up, we will continue our silence while we hike Pebble Trail. We will then break bread- and silence- in the meeting room where warm beverages and scones will be offered. This year’s winter solstice will occur during the Full Cold Moon (full moon peak will be the 22nd), a unique combination not to repeat itself until 2094.
Plan on arriving at the Bullitt Reservation at 6:30 AM to sign in then walk to our greeting spot in the Wildlife Habitat Field. There is hard packed, granular snow on the ground and the temperature will be cold. Wear appropriate clothing. Pebble Trail is a moderate trail over a hill. It has some steep climbs and will take about forty minutes. The footing may be slippery in places and hikers will have to step over some wet areas. Boots with ice cleats are highly recommended as are hiking or ski poles. No dogs please.
Please RSVP so we can notify you if the event is postponed due to weather. To reserve a spot, contact Susan Schroder at HLToutreach@thetrustees.org or call 413-628-4485 x 4.
Please note: Bullitt Road is inaccessible from North Poland Road during the winter. Please turn onto Bullitt Rd from Rte. 116.
