Nearly a hundred runners, walkers, family supporters and volunteers showed up for the 14th Gorge après Gorge 5k Trail Run and Family Fun Walk in spite of the snow-covered ground and predictions of ice and rain. They brought a strong, vibrant energy and an eagerness to exercise their bodies in the snow, under the clouds with wet feet and smiles on their faces.
As it turned out, the rain never came, fire pits were used for warming toes, and warm drinks and food were available. Following tradition, the runners received home-baked cookie medals at the finish line, and the winners were given handmade hats. Also, many hilltown businesses gave gift certificates or goods for the raffle that benefited Hilltown Land Trust.
The hearty participants created a fun and meaningful event by taking full advantage of the fact that Gorge après Gorge not only offers people an opportunity to challenge themselves in the cold, but it also gives parents a venue for passing on the values of land stewardship to the next generation.
